Consolidation is an ugly word but is it a beautiful thing? Capital Radio has now rolled out over the old Galaxy and Red Dragon, RAM and Leicester Sound networks, with a possible audience of around 6.5 million. GMG owned Smooth radio has done something similar,
But does this mean the end of local commercial radio? Consolidation could offer the smaller commercial stations a better usp. (Unique Selling Point) They could strive to be more local. If they give listeners more local news and information get involved with the community they could compete with the big guys, Whatever happens the RAJAR's this year will start to show if consolidation is really a beautiful thing.
