What the Dickins

Mike Dickin was a drunk, I don't think I ever saw him sober.  He was also one of the greatest talk show hosts in the UK.  Killed in a car crash in 2006 with an irony Dickin would have loved - his last radio show was about the afterlife and the existence of God! I worked with Mike during the late 80s and early 90s when he was on the air at London Talkback Radio a bastard-child offspring of LBC on the a.m. frequency.

The Grass Is Always Greener

One of my favourite Dickin true stories and one I think he never broadcast, was his loathing of the 'ordinary' Mike had a neighbour, a retired Army Captain, who every Sunday morning would meticulously mow his lawn, much to the chagrin of a hungover Dickin.  Anyway the chap made the mistake of going on holiday.  Mike seized his chance and hired a rotavator company for cash, sent them round to the Army Captain's to rotovate the lawn.  When the poor man returned from holiday he found his precious lawn had been turned to churned mud.
