Full Stream Ahead

Struggling satellite radio operator Sirius XM is planning to stream its subscription radio to the iPhone and iPod Touch. The American company almost filed for bankruptcy protection last month as new sales were reported to be down, even thought 19 million people are subscribed to the service. The streaming would act as an additional platform on which paying members could hear the advert-free audio channels. What we say: It does look like the future of radio could be in the form of streaming. There are challenges for the mobile phone industry and government - if everyone started to stream their favourite radio station the mobile phone network will get through an awful lot of bandwidth. Bandwidth that in the UK is not in place yet.
