It's amazing what you can achieve with virtually nothing. Here is an example: A young guy studying at film school wanted to make a stop frame animation he needed some plasticine so asked the Harbutt Plasticine company for some. He needed to have a voice-over for the film and begged a proper actor to do it for £50.
The Harbutt company provided the plasticine and Peter Sallis the voice and the film was called 'Wallace and Gromit's Grand Day Out' It was nominated for an Academy Award but lost out to another stop frame animation 'Creature Comforts' er also made by Nick Park.
So next time you moan about not having the staff or budget think how you can use your resources wisely. When I worked on The Sandi Toksvig Show we would cover 6-7 diverse subjects everyday. There were three of us on the show and we managed to make radio every bit as good as a show with double the staff and 10 times the resources - mind you we did also have the wonderful talented Sandi T who could make a phone book sound funny (Trust me she did that one and also once mended a bicycle puncture on air)
