Make money from your Voice?

Can anyone earn a living from voiceover work? I would say a qualified yes.  The industry has changed radically over the last few years.  The internet has turned the voiceover industry into a world market, one that can be accessed from the comfort of your own home.  So let me qualify my answer.

Firstly you do need a voice that clients and agents want to use.  This does not mean that you have to rush of to elocution lessons to make yourself sound like Maggie Smith or John Hurt.  Agents are often looking for 'natural' voices and your voice might just fit the bill for their client.

Secondly you need the ability to carry out the work, if you are in full-time employment you are not going to be able to audition for voiceover work, by the time you get home the jobs will have gone.

Thirdly you also need a facility at home where you can record, edit and send-off material.  So you need to have some technical knowledge to achieve this.

Finally a showreel  of your work or your voice and someone to listen to your voice, help and guide you to kick start your career as a voiceover.
